Our challenge this time is to remember the musicians who have prioritised their artistic freedom and innovation over commercial safety. Let's celebrate the songs of any genre and from any era that have pushed boundaries, whether they have been published by big commercial labels or not, or if they ended up being considered mainstream or not.

These songs were created by artists who experimented with new sounds, blended genres, told unusual - sometimes deeply personal - stories, or found new ways to explore well-known topics. 

But the "indie ethos", in its broadest sense, is a matter of interpretation - what each of us feels as authentic, innovative, original, experimental, diverse or alternative. So let’s share in this thread the songs and artists that embody that spirit for us.

For me, Kate Bush is one of the artists who trusted her vision and refused to compromise.
